Something old, something new: NESU-SHS

Merry Christmas from NESU-SHS!

It has been quite a cruise for NESU-SHS since the beginning of the pandemic, or you could say our cruise control got broken as our last event was NESU-Suomenlahti sits during late 2019. This year NESU-SHS didn’t really get a board to carry on and our activity died in 2021 completely.

But like a phoenix, NESU-SHS has always risen from the ashes. We have done this thrice before actually, around 80s’ and around the 90s’, and our latest revival was in 2012.

As we sing during the sits party and “vanhus tutkii muistikirjojaan” / ”the old man examines his notebooks”, it has been a pleasure to see that even though our activity was lost during the pandemic, NESU itself strived through the darkness. Some new traditions have risen during this time, some have been forgotten, and maybe some of these should be forgotten. It has been especially nice to see the rebirth of Itä-Suomen rundi, the bus ride through the cold wasteland they call Eastern Finland.

So, one could say it is a tale of ice and fire. And maybe this time we don’t have to wait 10 or 20 years for the fire of NESU-SHS to be reborn. It is time to pass the torch to the younger generation (pic related).

And long live the new board 2023!

At the moment, we’re still looking for board members for the upcoming year, after a couple of calmer years. Our main target for next year would be to wake NESU-SHS back to life and awake interest among Hanken students, so they would open their eyes to the wonderful world of NESU as well. Sometime this spring, we’re planning on organizing a sitz in Helsinki, hopefully see you there! But before that, we’ll unwind and have a relaxing christmas holidays before the next years NESU-saga continues!

With love,
NESU-SHS
