“Omstart!”
“Omstart!” echoes throughout the hall in response. Confusion, annoyance and amusement are
the most prevalent emotions in the room as the NESU-JKL proggis has once again come to a
crashing halt. The music starts up again, everyone turns back to their phones for lyrics as the
intro is nearing the end. Some trying to find the rhythm and some having completely given up
on the proggis and just reading the words as is. One would think having the lyrics to a song
right in front of you would make singing along easier but not in this case, apparently. Even
the board is confused. Still, there is one man whose voice can be heard clearly, amplified by
the loudspeakers, grinning in the middle of the stage.

There he is, Riku “Mehukatti” Pyhtinen, the chairman of the board 2025 and graphic designer of 2024, amateur parody songwriter and semi-professional playwright, a man driven by his passion for interesting lyrical choices and unusually shaped overall patches.
He is also the sole creator of masterpieces such as “Putkita ja pakasta” and “smurffien vappu”, both only ever performed once. It is not known where this creativity comes from, but the cause must be
highly contagious for most of the board of 2025 has already been infected. A cure might
never be found, so experts recommend exercising patience and tolerance for the foreseeable
future.
The first song written in collaboration with other members of the board was for the
NESU-Dagen 2025 sitzparty but unfortunately the song was never performed. We tried again
with “Putkita ja pakasta” at our first sitz of the year but had to start again three times for
various reasons. The most notable failure was “JKL on irti” at the Jäätävä ilmaveivi -sitz
hosted by NESU-Boomi. Reviews for this performance included depictions such as “not
good”, “painful to watch” and “chaos”. There might have also been talk of a ban on
songproggis’s. Luckily for everyone, these setbacks have only made us more determined to
beat the allegations, and prove that NESU-JKL can actually host a songproggis.

The Neon Disco -stiz hosted by NESU-Optimi was our time to shine, literally. The first
songproggis in our history where everyone knew what was going on, and what they needed to
do. There were no interruptions and no heckling, no confusion, and everyone was actually
participating. This was an incredible experience, giving back our confidence and inspiration
for new songs.
NESU-JKL protips for a successful songproggis:
- Keep the lyrics simple. Sitzgoers seem to have trouble with complex words.
- Try to time the proggis in the first period to maintain everyone’s sanity.
- Pick a well known original song to base the parody on. (easier to sing along)
- Give the microphone to someone who can actually sing and hold a tune, and also
knows the lyrics. - Just keep going no matter what, overconfidence is key
