Greetings from Turku!
Our year kicked off with a vibrant trip to the Dagen, and after a busy spring, it feels like ages ago. During this period, we managed to host one of our own sitz, as well as the traditional joint sitz with Åbo Akademi’s Merkantila Klubben students. Both events were tremendously successful, providing us with priceless memories already this year.
As spring draws to a close, we’re excited to organize our “Matti otitko sä simaa?” – May Day sitz. It will be wonderful to see some nesuits there before the summer break begins.
Five years from now, we hope to be an even bigger NESU city and a frontrunner in various fields. Environmental issues are very important to us, and we already offer only vegetarian food at our events. We’re committed to taking further steps towards sustainability, including aiming to recycle all waste. Another major theme for us as pioneers is promoting alcohol-free events. We want our sitz to be a safe space where no one feels pressured to drink.
We’re actively collaborating with the faculties of law and medicine in Turku, and we hope to continue this partnership for a long time. We have also set a goal to enhance our cooperation with Åbo Akademi’s Merkantila Klubben, with whom we’ve recently hosted a meet-and-greet evening for their KBG board, aiming to establish a new tradition within five years.
We are eager to expand our collaboration with other NESU cities to further spread the NESU message on a wider scale. Given that our school is quite large, not all students are actively involved in every aspect of NESU’s activities, such as ulkkarointi. We hope that by partnering with others, we can improve this engagement. Plans are already afoot for expanding our collaboration with other NESU cities this fall, but more on that later. Stay tuned!
