As the year is coming to an end, it is time to take a walk down memory lane and re-visit the best memories of my NESU career that has lasted for the last two years. This year I’ve represented NESU as the chairperson of NESU-TuKY.
The year has been challenging, yet rewarding and it has come with great personal growth. For me, NESU is place where we can experiment and practice different kinds of skills that are needed in the working life later on in life. Now is the time to try, fail, and try again.
Within these two years I’ve spent in this organization there are a few personal highlights. Of the countless Ulkkari sitz parties I’ve participated in, I remember most vividly the first one I attended at KY 2017. It was their annual Halloween sitz party and I had decided to attend just for the fun of it. I had no idea what NESU was or what I was just about to stick my nose into.
Fast forward a few months ahead and I was the next Art Director of the NESU-TuKY Board of 2018. That year I attended more events and visited more cities I’d ever before. I also had the privilege to attend my first Semma in Helsinki 2018. That week was definitely one of the best ones in my life and stays on as the best NESU memory I have so far. Other memories worth mentioning are toasting the Nordic Evening Sitz Party in Reykjavik dressed up as Voldemort and breaking my knee in the second city of Wappurundi in 2018 but still going on with the help of borrowed crutches from a fellow NESUit. The rest was history and in November 2018 I was selected as the chairperson of NESU-TuKY 2019.
These memories – and hundreds of others that didn’t fit into this post – are dear to me and something I will hold on to for the rest of my life. Even though these two years in NESU have not been any pleasure cruise, I would not change a thing. I will observe with great curiosity what the new boards and NESUits of 2020 have to offer and how will they develop our dear organization.
I would like to congratulate every newly selected board member of each NESU city. You have made the best possible decision and will have the time of your life during your NESU years. I would also like to remind everyone that did not get elected, that NESU’s heart is in its openness. You can always take part in all of the events and become a true NESUit – all you need is some NESU spirit and you’re good to go.
