Welcome to NESU: NESU-TuKY

Seasons greetings from the one and only NESU-TuKY! <3

This long and dark autumn is finally coming to an end, and we couldn’t be more excited for the oncoming Christmas time.

Our semester here in Turku started off with Freshers week, where we spread NESU-spirit in the traditional event KaupSu (City Orienteering). We were also able to organize our traditional Practice Sitz in the beginning of September, although as a smaller event due to the safety restrictions.

For the Practice Sitz NESU-TuKY has traditionally organized a ticket sale inside our school building, but this year, because of the current situation, the ticket sale was held outside. Here is what our new spokesperson 2021, Elle, thought about the queueing: “I am a freshman myself and I was also queuing outside for a whole night. It may sound harsh but honestly, it was one of the most memorable events of this autumn. And even though the queuing was held outside there still were dozens of freshmen waiting to get a ticket to Practice Sitz. The Practice Sitz was a success in my opinion: you could see and feel the NESU-spirit. It was one of the reasons I wanted to apply to NESU-TuKY’21 because I wanted to be a part of that as well.

Here are our lovely board members Leo, Ellen and Eerika introducing the freshmen to NESU.

In addition to KaupSu, NESU-TuKY got to participate in another big event for the freshmen, called TuKY-info. The idea of the event is to introduce the new students to all the different sections of TuKY and excite them to become active TuKY-members. During the event, our board got to introduce ourselves and show a tiny bit of what NESU is about.

Another tradition we have here in Turku is organizing events together with our Swedish-speaking buddies from Merkantila Klubben, the Association of Economics students in Åbo Akademi. In November, we combined our forces with MK and organized a Temptation Island -themed sitzparty on Zoom. It was a success, and we were thrilled to see many freshmen attending as well.

Temptation Island -sitzparty about to start.

Although we have not been able to spread NESU-spirit in the most traditional way through our sitzparties, we were very happy to keep up the sitz traditions through e.g. our Zoom sitzparty. When we held our board election in November, it was amazing to see a historically big turnout of enthusiastic new NESUits applying for the board of NESU-TuKY’21.

In 2021, NESU-TuKY hopes to organize traditional sitzparties, but if the Covid-situation continues as bad as now, we will try our best to organize alternative events. Our goal for 2021 is to encourage students in Turku to go to sitzparties in other cities when it is possible again. We are excited about the upcoming year and can’t wait to be able to organize awesome sitz again.

Here is the amazing board of NESU-TuKY 2021!

Our #1 tip to get into the Christmas spirit is putting up pretty lights and warming up a nice cup of glögi.

NESU-TuKY wishes everyone a very happy Christmas! We can’t wait to see you all at the sitz tables once it is safe again.

Stay safe & remember that Livet är härligt!
